            SITE PLAN
Roxbury Pavilion is a spiritual sanctuary open to anyone in the community who wishes to take advantage of the space, emphasizing four words derived from Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs pyramid: shelter, interaction, skills, and spiritual. The structure is a non-denominational space intended to bring the community together for all purposes. The open space can be transformed to an art or music exhibition, a central meeting space to teach, learn, or exchange skills with others in the community, a temporary resting space, or a space to connect and reflect spiritually with oneself or with others.
Inspired by Serpentine Pavilion 2022 Black Chapel (Kensington Gardens, England) and the MIT Chapel (Cambridge, MA), Roxbury Pavilion adapts the circular forms from the MIT Chapel, as the circular shape is a powerful symbol of inclusion and protection. The circular forms of the pavilion provide a "shell" of protection to anyone who seeks shelter or sanctuary. The broken circular bits represent parts of the community; it is multiple pieces that make up a community, not ever just one person or one component. The interior of the pavilion is to remain empty of furniture or other structures to maintain an unrestricted environment, as inspired by Black Chapel where the open space is dedicated to artists' works and visitors can reflect and connect spiritually to the work.
